Keith Barker

As Chairman of the Board, I wanted to share a bit about my background and connection to God's Storehouse. I served the City of Galax for 29 years, including as City Manager from 2009 to 2021. Following my retirement in 2021, alongside my wife (a retired Galax City Schools teacher), we were blessed with the birth of our grandson.

In 2022, we began volunteering with God's Storehouse, initially assisting with food box distribution. Over time, our involvement has deepened as we've become more familiar with the various missions GSH undertakes to support our community. From packing food boxes and serving meals to simply lending an ear to visitors, we've found that service to others is something we can all participate in, and we're grateful for the opportunity to do so with GSH.

Kisha Johnson

Kisha Johnson, a proud daughter of southwest Virginia, grew up immersed in the beauty of her region, yet she was initially unaware of the profound challenges its residents face. Fueled by her family's unwavering love and support, she embarked on a heartfelt mission to uplift those in need. In 2016, Kisha and her parents, Bill and Delina Parks, took the helm of God’s Storehouse Soup Kitchen, a turning point that would transform lives.

Confronted by the harsh realities of hunger and addiction, they rolled up their sleeves and tirelessly worked to create impactful programs that address these pressing issues head-on. Under their devoted stewardship, God’s Storehouse has blossomed into a multifaceted haven of hope, featuring a literacy program, an addiction recovery initiative, a women’s recovery house, food distribution efforts, hot meal services, community clean-ups, post-incarceration aid, and job placement services They are also dedicated liaisons within the Hispanic community, fostering inclusion and support.

Kisha aspires to be recognized as an Appalachian woman whose passion for helping others knows no bounds—who refuses to give up on people, no matter their challenges.
